Staying Positive in Adverse Situations
Millions of individuals are suffering from unjustified trauma,
trial, troubles and heartache. Bad things happen to good people. In several
occasions all of us would have come across situations where we feel enormously
hassled, and situations where we become too emotional. At times, we are
compelled to feel like reacting in a manner that we have never reacted before.
While going through these kind of circumstances, it is difficult to keep a
positive attitude, however, do not forget that we are usually judged by our
reflections so staying positive is the effective way to react to an unfavorable
circumstances. Since no two individual will respond alike to the same
situation. How we react individually to these situations is what makes the
difference. Like Viktor Frankl rightly pointed out, "everything can be
taken from a man or a woman but one thing: the last of human freedoms to choose
one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own
way".
Given a problem, there are millions of ways to approach it.
Usually when things go wrong, our natural inclination is to release
frustration, aggravation, act in disappointment, despair, gloominess and then
depression sets in. These types of negative reaction will only make the
circumstances worse.
You can overcome an adverse situation by keeping up a positive
attitude. Your attitude when confronted with an adverse situation is a choice.
The good thing about choices is that we are born choosers. We are all choosers
waiting to be chosen by our choices. We are not born winners or losers but we
are born choosers and the choices we make create our world.
In order to stay positive in a negative situation, one must
learn to control his or her response. If you take action out of emotion it can
only worsen the situation. We should constantly seek to be the masters of our
situations and not give them the room to have power over us. By looking at
adverse situations as an occasion to learn and grow, a chance to get to know
ourselves, who we are truly. We can achieve this by accentuating positive
attitude through our actions, thoughts and words. Surely it's not about what
happens to us but more about what we permit to happen in us and through us.
Maintaining a positive attitude is not easy and requires
discipline on our part, but it can be attained. At first it can be a
challenging process but eventually you will learn to control your reactions out
of habit. When you can effectively apply it, you will be amazed at the results.
It gives you an incredible feeling. Very few know and apply this principle.
